Ray Wilkins is a former midfielder for England, Chelsea, Manchester United, Milan, QPR and Rangers.
Ray made his name in the 1970s with boyhood club Chelsea, whom he joined as an apprentice, progressing to his first team debut against Norwich City at the age of 17 on 26 October 1973 as a substitute in a 3-0 home league win.
In 1975, following the club's relegation and the departure of many established players, an 18-year old Wilkins was handed the captaincy of Chelsea by new manager Eddie McCreadie leading a team of mainly young players to promotion again in 1976–77 and, in the next season, consolidation of their place in the First Division.
The sudden departure of manager Eddie McCreadie proved to be a blow to Chelsea's performance, and they were relegated in 1978–79. Shortly afterwards Chelsea accepted an offer from Manchester United and Ray headed north, where he went on to collect an FA Cup Winners medal.
A year though Ray moved to Italian giants Milan reaching the final of the Coppa Italia in 1985. After a short spell at Paris St Germain, Ray joined Glasgow Rangers, where he won both the Scottish League Title and Scottish League Cup.
Ray then spent four years with QPR before spells with Crystal Palace and QPR as player coach.
During his footballing career Ray won 84 caps for England and was a fixture in the England squad through a successful campaign to qualify for the 1982 World Cup in Spain, and was part of the 1986 World Cup Final squad.
Ray retired from playing at the end of the 1996-97 season.
In 1997, Wilkins became the manager of Fulham, taking the club to the second division play-offs, before moving to work as a coach under Gianluca Vialli, at both Chelsea and Watford.
Ray also worked with Denise Wise at Millwall and was assistant to Peter Taylor with the England Under 21s. Most recently Ray worked as assistant manager under Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea
Ray appears as a commentator for Sky Sports, particularly on their Champions League coverage and has also been given the role of co-commentator on a number of high profile Premier League and Champions League matches.
