Chris Adams

Cricket After Dinner Speaker

Chris Adams played for Derbyshire CCC, Sussex CCC, and England. After retiring in 2008, he took on the tough job of restoring the fortunes of Surrey CCC and is currently absorbed in progressing the club back to the previous high standards it has enjoyed.
He is also a well considered pundit and commentator for Sky TV and also contributes to BBC Radio in similar mode.
As a cricketer and as a skipper of Sussex for 10 years, which proved the most successful in the County"s History, he earned a deserved reputation as a gifted and aggressive batsman, a fierce but fair competitor, and a shrewd man Manager. In his current position those latter skills are put to the test daily, and now with the sort of success that has seen, for example, players like Chris Tremlett benefit to the point of re establishing a stuttering career following his move to Surrey from Hampshire.

Rebuilding the Surrey fortunes is a big task but one which he is attacking with his characteristic determination and single mindedness. He is a holder of the top Coaching Award in the Country and combines his duties as Professional Cricket Manager, with Coaching duties with the players at the Kia Oval and has also travelled abroad to coach England Developing Players in India during the winter of 2010/11.

He was educated at Chesterfield School and Repton, which is where his Cricketing talent, nurtured in Club Cricket in Derbyshire, flourished and lead to the chance to join Derbyshire C C C as a Professional in 1987.He soon cemented a first XI place and the highlight of his developing years there was to be a member of the of the ------- -------- Cup winning team of 19??.That game is well remembered for him being "beamed" by Wasim Akram and the subsequent fall out from that. He did not know it at the time, but his reaction to that ball, convinced Robin Marlar that he was the man to lead Sussex from the Cricketing wilderness they were currently languishing in.

Thus and eventually, he moved amidst no little controversy to the then bottom team in the Championship, Sussex, as Captain, There he continued to excel as a batsman and occasional bowler, once claiming a hat trick at, of all places, the Oval.
Alongside a focused Committee and a strong off field team lead by coach, Peter Moores, Sussex began to rise, and despite the occasional setback, achieved great success. On a personal level, his aggressive batting saw him selected for England in both the One Day and Test formats.
Never afraid to take a calculated risk, he revelled in signing Mushtaq Ahmed when other Counties had walked away from the chance, and saw his judgement richly rewarded. Today Surrey are beginning to see the benefits of that judgement in the way in which home produced young players are integrated in the right type of environment, with more seasoned professionals in the search to develop that elusive combination of youth and experience all strive to achieve.
His efforts at Sussex received due recognition by the award of an Honorary Degree at The University of Brighton in 2010, where his acceptance speech was heralded by Dons as "the most impressive and motivational speech" they had heard. His confidence in speaking is partly due to his character and also in part due to the professional courses he has attended on personal communication and media presentation.
Away from Cricket, he enjoys his Golf and often participates on Golf Days for various organisations. In October 2011, along with brother David, he undertakes a 868 miles in 16 day, Bike Ride to every County Cricket Club to raise both funds and awareness for the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Society.. Along the way they will be joined by many famous personalities from the game , keen to support both the riders and the cause.

Chris Adams is available, subject to Surrey commitments of course, for Business and Motivational events, Sportsman's Dinners and Presentation and other like events, such as Golf Days etc, where he may be able to provide the organisers with what they seek to achieve in a stress free environment.

A great choice as a sports speaker.
