Dennis Amiss
Cricket After Dinner Speaker
Former Warwickshire and England Cricketer, Dennis Amiss MBE was a prolific batsman throughout his career before retiring in 1987. Not wanting to stay out of Cricket for an extended period of time, after retirement he undertook a role with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as a team selector. His achievements during his time playing professional cricket ensure he is in constant demand as a cricket speaker, delivering talks as an after dinner speaker at events and conferences.
Making his test debut in 1966 Amiss forged a prolific career as a Test batsman, scoring 3,612 runs during a successful career. During this time he made 11 centuries, including two double centuries against the West Indies. Known as a perfectionist Dennis Amiss was well known for constantly looking for improvements within his teams and own performances- an attribute which sets him apart from any ordinary cricketer. Playing his final test match in 1977, Amiss was equally as dangerous within the ODI format of the game, amassing 859 runs and scoring the first ever ODI century. Along with Desmond Haynes, Amiss is the only man to have scored a century one both his debut and his last match within ODI cricket. His impressive career has drawn in much attention to his availability as an after dinner speaker, with his attendance at events and conferences as a sports speaker proving to be the biggest draw.
Amiss is a model professional having played his entire career avoiding controversy and much of the hullabaloo which can surround professional sport. An eloquent and fluent after dinner speaker with the ability to engross the audience, Dennis Amiss is undoubtedly the ideal addition to any event.
