Paul Fletcher

Paul Fletcher, Football speaker, keynote speaker

Following a 16 year career as a professional footballer, Paul Fletcher has now become one of Europe's leading Stadium experts. He is former Chief Executive of the Reebok Stadium and the Ricoh Arena, and Commercial Director of Wembley Stadium. Paul believes the teamwork skills he learnt on the pitch are what has driven his success, and shares this insight with audiences through his keynote speeches.

Paul Fletcher is a former professional footballer turned Stadium expert, he is an entertaining after dinner speaker using his past experiences to entertain the audience and he ensures he incorporates a corporate message into his speeches that companies will benefit from.

Paul’s professional football career began in 1970 when he was signed with Burnley Football Club and he quickly became one of the UK’s most expensive players. Paul played over 400 matches most of which were in the Premier League and he was eventually picked for the England Squad, which was managed by Don Revie. Unfortunately, for Paul his career was cut short when a leg injury caused him to retire at the age of thirty-two.

Following his football career, Paul became a Stadium expert and he is now one of Europe’s top Stadium experts. He has worked for the Come Dynamoes Football Club and he became the Chief Executive at Huddersfield Town and over the course of six years planning the Alfred McAlpine Stadium, which was voted ‘Building of the Year’ in 1995.

Paul became Chief Executive of Bolton Wanderers at the modern Reebok Stadium, which cost them £40 million to build. He was then offered a job at Wembley as the Commercial Director of the £500 million Wembley Stadium.

In 2009 he went back to his old club, Burnley and was the Development Director and then became the Chief Executive. Paul was part responsible for helping Burnley gain promotion back up to the Premier League. He continues to be involved in Stadium projects all over the UK, Europe and Australia and he helps at his local football club, Rossendale United. He is also Managing Director of UCFB (University & College of Football Business), in 2011 UCFB were given an FA Football award for “most innovative use of a football stadium on non-match days”.

Paul gained recognition as a speaker when he spoke as a guest speaker at the PFA Awards alongside Sir Bobby Charlton and comedian Rory Bremner, the event was filmed by Sky and was watched by people around the UK. In 2007 Paul made the New Years Honours list and was awarded an MBE for services to football.

Paul believes that his success is due to the teamwork skills he learnt playing professional football and in his speeches he teaches corporate audiences that outstanding results can be achieved through ambition and everyone working towards the same end result.
