Curtis Woodhouse
Curtis Woodhouse has a unique story to tell, as a former professional footballer turned professional boxer and football manager.
Curtis played football as a central midfielder and competed as a light-welterweight boxer. He is a former British light-welterweight champion. His football career spanned across nine seasons, playing in the Premier League for Birmingham City and winning four England U21 caps. His professional boxing record stands at 29 fights 22 wins – 13 of which were by knock-out – and 7 defeats.
After starting out at Sheffield United, where he became the club’s youngest-ever captain, Curtis was transferred to Birmingham City in 2001 for a £1m fee. Spells at Peterborough United, Hull City and Grimsby Town followed before he quit playing at the age of 26 to pursue a professional boxing career.
In 2006, he won his first pro fight, defeating Dean Marcantonio, on points, knocking him down twice in the final round.
Later that year, after being convicted of assaulting a police officer and having his boxing licence suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control, Curtis returned to football when he signed for Rushden & Diamonds.
He won the British light-welterweight title in 2014 when he beat Darren Hamilton.
Now manager of non-league Bridlington Town AFC, Curtis is an outspoken character whose autobiography – Box to Box: From the Premier League to British Boxing Champion – charts his remarkable dual sporting career.
